The Prince of Pop-Ups

Sept. 15, 2005

There is no denying that Robert Sabuda makes stunning books. Often referred to as the "Prince of Pop-ups," Sabuda creates spectacular children's pop-up books that fast become collectibles.

Photographer Melanie Shatzky visited Sabuda at his studio in New York. She thought she’d somehow stumbled across Santa and his elves, busy at work on a very exciting and secret project. Sabuda is pictured in the multimedia gallery on the right with his bestselling Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Dinosaurs. These beautiful pieces aren’t just for the enjoyment of kids: both little ones and grown-ups have been wowed.
